2004 STATE PRCA conference to be held sept. 23-24 in Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM – The 2004 Public Relations Council of Alabama (PRCA) state conference will be held Sept. 23-24, at the Birmingham Marriott (3590 Grandview Parkway, just off U.S. Highway 280).

Hosted by PRCA’s Birmingham Chapter, the event will be the year’s largest gathering of professional public relations and communication practitioners in Alabama.

“The Birmingham Chapter is proud to host this year’s conference,” said Joy Carter, APR, state vice president of programs and conference chair. “We look forward to sharing with our peers from across the state the very best our chapter and our city has to offer in terms of professional development, networking and entertainment.”

The theme for this year’s conference is “Where Ya Goin’?” a play on the Greater Birmingham Convention and Visitors Bureau’s “Sweet Birmingham” campaign. The conference agenda, which is available at www.prcaonline.com, features leading experts in crisis communications, media relations, internal communications and special events management.

The event is open to the public and will be of high interest to public relations practitioners, communicators and other interested business professionals. The cost for the conference is $225 members; $275 non-members and $100 students. Single day prices are also available. Registrations postmarked after Tuesday, Aug. 31, must include a $15 late fee. To register, go to www.prcaonline.com or contact Jena Ogiba (prca.conference@prcaonline.com) at 205/982-1066.

PRCA is the state's oldest and largest group of public relations practitioners. The organization exists to further the professional and networking interests of today's public relations and communication professional in private, public and nonprofit businesses and organizations and meets monthly at various locations throughout the metropolitan Birmingham area.

Along with networking, PRCA offers career development and civic improvement opportunities, seeks to mentor college students and works to improve the professionalism of public relations practice through its accreditation program. There are six PRCA chapters in Alabama. They are: Birmingham, East Alabama (in Auburn), Huntsville, Mobile, Montgomery and West Alabama (in Tuscaloosa).
