BIRMINGHAM PRCA CHAPTER MAKES DONATION TO ADOPT-A-SCHOOL PARTNER HAYES HIGH SCHOOL

BIRMINGHAM – The Birmingham Chapter of the Public Relations Council of Alabama (PRCA-B) announced a $250 donation to Hayes High School today through the Partners-in-Education program.

The donation is to be used as “seed money” for the upcoming Hayes Alumni Family Reunion to be held Oct. 14. Proceeds for the donation came from the club’s Media Relations and Crisis Communications seminar held in June at the Lakeshore Foundation.

“We’re very thankful for this gift from PRCA,” said Vanessa Byrd, Hayes High principal. “It’s the start of what we hope will be a good event to get our alumni more involved with our school.”

As PRCA’s adopt-a-school partner Hayes’ staff and students have benefited from:

  • New and improved campus signage
  • Hayes honor students attending monthly PRCA luncheons
  • Pro bono public relations consultation and support (graphic design, media relations, printing, photography etc.) from PRCA members
  • Job shadowing opportunities with PRCA-affiliated organizations
  • Internship opportunities with PRCA-affiliated organizations
  • Speakers from PRCA visiting Hayes’ to encourage students to pursue careers in the communication arts

Formerly a middle school and located in a beleaguered section of the city near downtown, Hayes is the Birmingham city school system’s newest high school and lacks many amenities that are taken for granted at other schools.

PRCA is the state's longest operating and largest group of public relations practitioners. The organization exists to further the professional and networking interests of today's public relations and communication professional in private, public and nonprofit businesses and organizations. Along with networking, PRCA offers career development and civic improvement opportunities, seeks to mentor college students and works to improve the professionalism of public relations practice through its accreditation program.
