Birmingham-Southern College’s
Office of Communications has an immediate opening for a Director
of College and Special Events to oversee an evolving and
dynamic major and special events environment at the nationally
recognized liberal arts college. Primary responsibilities
include planning, coordinating, executing, and hosting major
events in an effective, efficient, and creative manner,
including special campaign and alumni events for the Office of
Institutional Advancement. The director serves as the college’s
resident expert in the area of events management to provide
creative solutions and other support that result in successful
event outcomes. The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s
degree and a minimum of five years experience in a professional
events-planning position. Excellent interpersonal,
communication, time management, decision-making, customer
service, relationship-building, and marketing skills; a

UAB Creative Services - Web
Communications Manager
Under general supervision, this
position manages the daily operations and administration of the
Web communications function for UAB Web Communications or a
large school, which may include supervising staff, managing
project schedules, and overseeing the development of content of
various University Web sites. Primary responsibility includes
project management of the University's external and internal Web
presence and online electronic media and communications
projects. This position collaborates with the Office of the Vice
President for Technology and works with vendors to carry out
these initiatives. Assists in the development of and monitoring
of assigned budget. Annual salary range:
$48,204-$61,800-$75,396.
Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree
preferably in PR, Marketing Communications or related field and
four years of related experience in print or other marketing
communications with experience in Web marketing communications
or a Masters degree and one year of applicable experience.
Experience building HTML, XHTML and CSS-based Web sites, working
knowledge of programming languages, SQL databases, and web
publishing software is strongly preferred.

UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center
Volunteer Coordinator (Program Manager I)
The volunteer coordinator (listed as Program Manager I) will be
responsible for developing, implementing and managing a
volunteer program for the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center's
Integrated Multidisciplinary Clinical Care Program. Duties will
include building infrastructure with clinical units, recruiting
and training volunteers and monitoring their daily assignments.
This position will work closely with physicians, nurses and
community members with the ultimate goal of enhancing patient
experience with the help of volunteer greeters/navigators. This
position requires a Bachelor’s degree and two years experience
related to program management. A master's degree related to the
program's content area preferred and will substitute for the
experience requirement. Experience coordinating volunteers in a
hospital setting preferred.

Specialist reports to the Communications Manager.
Carries out all duties entailed in producing the
weekly newsletter (ACIPCO News), serving as content
planner, researcher, interviewer, reporter, writer,
photographer, review/approvals coordinator,
production coordinator, and editor. Meets weekly
content and production deadlines. Develops the
newsletter content plans and submits the plans to
the Communications Manager for approval. Cultivates
information sources throughout the organization and
maintains good relationships at all levels. Stays
abreast of labor, benefits, human resources,
industry, safety, and marketplace issues that shape
content decisions. Attends company meetings and
events (some off site) as needed for content
gathering. Multi-tasks these duties with other
deadline and special project assignments from
Manager. Serves on interdepartmental special project
teams as assigned. Keeps newsletter content index up
to date.
Requirements:
• Must exhibit a
bachelor's degree in Public Relations,
Communications, Journalism or in a related field
from an accredited four-year college or university.
Proof of transcript required.
• Must exhibit at least two years of previous work
experience in a position of responsibility that
included content planning, writing, editing, and
production of a corporate publication; or two or
more years as a business reporter/writer for a
newspaper or magazine. Portfolio of published work
samples required.
• Must have a track record of accuracy in print and
be an experienced proofreader.
• Must exhibit a working knowledge of the pre-press
production process including conceptual design,
content development, editorial process, photo
composition, design and layout, and production
coordination.
• Must demonstrate an excellent command of the
English language including, grammar, spelling, and
punctuation.
• Must exhibit the ability to write news and feature
articles that are accurate, thorough, and easy to
read in the inverted-pyramid style of writing; must
be familiar with journalistic style reference books.
• Must exhibit good interviewing and listening
skills and good note taking, fact gathering, and
analysis skills.
