     Communications Internship - HealthSouth of Alabama is offering paid internships in the field of communications, public relations and journalism.  HealthSouth is looking for students who are committed to a career in communications as exemplified in their studies, college organizations, prior internships and prior media work experience.  Grade point average, community service and leadership experience are also important parts of the total assessment.

     Responsibilities:
  • Work with local markets on proactive PR efforts, write press releases, develop media contact list, work on special media campaigns and more
  • Write features for HealthSouth's internal and external websites and employee publications.
  • Monitor nationwide traditional and social media activity and compile reports for executive and regional management
  • Support additional PR efforts

     PR Internship - The United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Birmingham is accepting applications for their 2012 Spring development internship position.  This intern will receive hands-on experience with event planning, fundraising, communication, and many other tasks that a non-profit development team tackles on a daily basis.

     The ideal intern should be enrolled in a university public relations, marketing, advertising or other related program.  Current students should have sophomore standing.  The individual must demonstrate the ability to undertake basic public relations writing assignments, possess a basic understanding of media relation skills and be able to interact professionally with clients.

     This is an unpaid internship.  Interns will have flexibility, but should plan on working between 15 - 25 hours a week.  Interested applicants should send a resume and a writing sample (of any kind) to Hillary Carnel at hcarnel@ucpbham.com by November 30, 2011.

     Special Events & Communications Internship - The UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center's Office of Development & Community Relations is looking for an intern to assist with special event planning and execution, assist with and coordinate internal relations activities, assist in the development in public relations plans for upcoming events/activities and provide support to the development and community relations staff for a variety of public relations and events activities.

Communications Internship - The Energen Corporation is looking for an intern for their Communications Department.  This is a paid internship.  This internship consists of a 15-week program in which students gain hands-on experience in various fields such as journalism, photography, video, special events and more.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist with visual story development and digital storytelling, including editing and preparing photos and videos.
  • Write and edit news and feature stories for electronic and print publications.
  • Research and write content for corporate web sites.
  • Assist in graphic design.
  • Assist with promotions, events and other special projects.
Qualifications:
  • Open to students who are completing their junior or senior year.
  • College curriculum in communications, graphic design, web design, public relations or journalism preferred.
  • Strong writing, research and editing skills.
  • Experience in still and video shooting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work independently and on a team.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.

     Communications Coordinator - Glenwood (Autism and Behavioral Center) is looking for a Communications Coordinator.
This position is responsible for managing, updating and maintaining the website and subsidiary website for marketing and public relations.  The Coordinator prepares and coordinates all print and digital materials for marketing, events and public information and assists with events and other needs of the development department.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelors degree in Mass Communications, Marketing or related field.
  • 2+ years experience required.
  • Proficient skills in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) and WordPress.

     Public Relations Position - Birmingham-based Public Relations and Branding firm KC Projects seeks motivated, detail-oriented, self-starter for full-time Public Relations position.  Ideal candidate is responsible, energetic, able to multi-task with minimum two years of professional PR experience.  Candidate must be great communicator with excellent written, verbal and organizational skills and ability to adapt very quickly.  We are seeking an individual who is able to manage multiple projects, work in a fast paced environment serving multiple deadlines, demonstrate an eye towards anticipating the company's needs and be extremely detail-oriented.

Responsibilities
  • Assists and reports to Principal of KC Projects.
  • Support media relations efforts including media list development, respond to media requests, media monitoring, pitching and results reports.
  • Draft press materials including media alerts, press releases and pitch letters/emails.
  • Assist in coordinating special events.
  • Performs basic administrative duties including compiling media mentions, scanning, copy editing , answering inquiries, etc.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of diverse industries and helpful knowledge of social media is a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including verbal presentation skills, solid and accurate writing ability.
  • Solid Web and print research, fact checking and proofing skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast paced environment with a creative approach.
  • Strong organizational skills is a must.  Detail-oriented, able to multi-task and handle high stress situations.
  • Must have interpersonal skills to deal effectively with all business contacts.
  • Computer experience required but not limited to MSWord, Excel, Photoshop and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Bachelor degree in journalism, public relations, communications or marketing preferred.
